Arsenal and Manchester City are now tied at the top of the Premier League table with 21 points each. This parity arrived after Arsenal defeated Everton 2-0 in heavy rain at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, while Manchester City suffered its first loss of the season.

The gap between the two leaders had been three points before this weekend. Aston Villa broke that stranglehold by beating City 2-1 at Villa Park. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for the hosts, ending Manchester City's unbeaten start to the league campaign. Unai Emery's side climbed to sixth place with 11 points, securing their third consecutive league victory over the champions.

In London, Arsenal controlled the weather and the ball. Martin Odegaard delivered a corner that Jordan Pickford initially saved, but the ball rebounded to Ezri Konsa. The defender tapped it in from close range in the seventh minute. This marked Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May, snapping a 13-game drought in all competitions.

Konsa emphasized the need for consistency at home. He said, "We are champions and to be champions you've got to win games consistently. This is our home, and we want to win as many games here as possible."

The second goal came in the 68th minute during a milestone game for two Arsenal players. Ben White, playing his 200th match for the club, crossed to the far post. Gabriel headed the ball into the net on his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton remains ninth in the standings.

At Villa Park, the match featured a back-and-forth start. Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after John McGinn stole the ball from Marc Guehi. Erling Haaland restored parity with a header from a free-kick shortly after halftime. Jackson won the game in the 60th minute, finishing a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye with a shot that slipped under goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City faces off-field issues alongside the on-field result. The club is appealing a decision by an independent commission that found 114 breaches of financial rules. City denies wrongdoing. Jackson noted the early stage of the season when he said, "It's just the beginning; we're trying to work game by game."

Other results shifted the lower half of the table. Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, a venue where they had not won in 36 years. Mike Penders, making his first league start, punched a corner into his own net. Cole Palmer was sent off in the 80th minute. Mathys Tel scored the winner in the 87th minute. Fulham defeated Coventry City 1-0, with Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute to move Fulham to 13th place.
