Twenty-four people died after Russian bombs struck a school serving as a humanitarian aid center in the village of Komyshuvakha. The attack occurred in the southeastern Zaporizhia region. Ukraine's emergency services agency confirmed the death toll.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the initial air strike was followed by a second wave. He said nine additional bombs landed directly on the shelter where residents were gathering. Five other individuals were injured in the blast. Footage from the scene showed the building reduced to smoldering rubble while rescuers worked the site.
Regional Governor Mykhailo Semikin reported that the victims included a police officer and two State Emergency Service rescuers. He said 27 people are currently listed as missing. Zelenskyy noted that residents of Komyshuvakha received aid at this location every week. He argued the strikes prove Russia does not want de-escalation or real justice.
Zelenskyy linked the attack to recent events in Oleshky. He said the humanitarian operation there offered a moment where progress toward peace seemed possible. He claimed Russia is now sending an opposite signal by counting on more killings.
Other parts of Ukraine also faced attacks. Emergency services reported that drone strikes injured 12 people in the eastern Kharkiv region. Those strikes damaged a refrigeration facility, greenhouses, and residential buildings. Five people were injured in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, where a warehouse was targeted.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated it shot down 212 Ukrainian drones overnight. Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, the head of Russia’s Samara region, said local air defenses repelled an aerial attack. He did not provide further details on that incident.
