Jimmy McGuire is retiring from his stage managing role on Wheel of Fortune. He made the announcement after hosts Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White publicly bid him farewell on the program in late October. This marks the end of his daily presence on that specific set, though his career in television production is far from over.

McGuire, who turned 60 in March, cited a desire to cut back on his overall workload as the primary reason for the departure. He stated that he decided on his own to retire from those specific responsibilities to enter what he calls the third act of life. The move allows him more free time in Los Angeles, where he currently resides.

He will remain employed by the crew for Jeopardy!, a show where he has worked for 25 years. His role on that program is expanding rather than shrinking. He now handles three distinct jobs on show days: rehearsal host, audience warm up, and stage manager. He noted that this new schedule keeps him quite busy and allows him to work alongside host Ken Jennings and the rest of the staff.

The Pittsburgh native expressed strong affection for his hometown connections. He mentioned that contestants and audience members from Pittsburgh frequently take the opportunity to mention the city during the show. He described himself as proud to be from Pittsburgh and enjoyed seeing local fans in the audience.

Paul, a viewer who emailed Trib Total Media writer Rob Owen, provided context for the news. Paul recalled meeting McGuire two years ago while watching Jeopardy! filming. He said McGuire asked if anyone was from Pittsburgh and approached him after the question. Paul also noted that artificial intelligence apps had inconsistent information about the exit until McGuire confirmed the retirement details.

The decision affects the operational side of Wheel of Fortune, where McGuire previously managed the stage. It does not impact the host or the contestants. For Jeopardy!, the shift consolidates more production duties onto McGuire. He emphasized that he is happy with the balance his new schedule provides.
