Mika Stojsavljevic defeated former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin to claim her first win in a WTA Tour main draw. The match took place at the Hong Kong Open on Tuesday. Stojsavljevic, who is 17 years old, won the deciding set 6-4 after a score of 6-3, 4-6.

The British teenager entered the tournament as a lucky loser after losing in the qualifying rounds. She received confirmation of her spot in the main draw just one hour before the match began. Stojsavljevic, currently ranked world number 411, stated, "I only knew an hour before I was going to be playing. I kind of just went out and swung today."

Kenin, who is 27, holds a ranking 224 places higher than her opponent. The American won the Melbourne title in 2020 but has struggled in recent seasons. Stojsavljevic finished the match with six winners while Kenin recorded zero. The teenager saved three of the eight break points she faced during the match.

Stojsavljevic began playing tennis at age seven at the Ealing Lawn Tennis Club in north-west London. She became the first British player in 15 years to win the US Open junior title in 2024. She turned professional in 2025 and reached the junior world number five ranking. Earlier this year, she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 event in Birmingham.

This victory marks her second major win of the year. In April, she defeated then world number 56 Talia Gibson during Billie Jean King Cup qualifying. Stojsavljevic will face world number 67 Zeynep Sonmez in the second round of the Hong Kong Open.
