Miro Heiskanen recorded the game-winning assist for the Dallas Stars on Thursday night, sending Roope Hintz on a breakaway to secure a 3-2 overtime victory over the Winnipeg Jets. The decisive play occurred at 3:47 of the extra period, capping a contest decided by a single goal after regulation ended in a 2-2 tie.

The sequence began with a defensive stop. Jason Robertson blocked a shot from Winnipeg, ending a scoring chance that had developed partly due to a prior turnover. Heiskanen immediately retrieved the puck and executed an outlet pass to Hintz. The Finn skier finished the one-on-one opportunity in front of the net to give Dallas the lead.

Heiskanen played a heavy workload in the absence of Esa Lindell, who was scratched from the lineup. He logged 29 minutes and 20 seconds of ice time, the most on the team. Thomas Harley also played a heavy load, totaling 28 minutes and 27 seconds. No other Dallas defenseman exceeded 18 minutes, with Lian Bichsel playing 17:47. The distribution of minutes indicates the Stars relied heavily on their top two defensemen to manage the game.

Winnipeg took an early lead in the second period when John Johnston scored. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor later responded in the same period to put the Jets ahead 2-1. Dallas trailed until Hintz scored a six-on-five power play goal with two minutes remaining in the third period to force overtime. Despite the late equalizer, the Stars faced a high-pressure finish against a Jets team that had controlled possession for much of the game.

The Stars generated 38 shots on goal, nearly double Winnipeg's 19 attempts. However, Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped 35 shots to keep the game close. Heiskanen finished the game with five shots, one block, and the winning assist. Harley did not record a goal, and neither defenseman was required to score for their defensive efforts to be effective.

The Stars will next face a schedule that requires them to manage their defensive depth. Lindell's absence created a temporary adjustment in the lineup, but no specific return date was announced after the game. The team will look to maintain its current defensive structure in upcoming contests while monitoring the health of its top pairing.
