BYD Prices $300,000 Electric Sedan for UAE Debut

The company’s largest car skips China for its global launch, targeting Rolls-Royce and Bentley with new solid-state battery technology.

BYD is preparing to launch its most expensive vehicle in the United Arab Emirates, bypassing its home market for the debut. Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of the Yangwang sub-brand, confirmed this week that the new ultra-luxury electric sedan will make its global premiere in the UAE. The company has not released a specific date, but the official reveal is expected to occur this month.

The car represents the top tier of BYD’s expanding lineup. It is positioned against established luxury brands like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. This move stands in contrast to BYD’s reputation for affordable models such as the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China. The Yangwang brand sits above the Denza and FangChengBao lines, serving as a showcase for the manufacturer’s advanced engineering.

Pricing for the new sedan is estimated to start around 2 million yuan, or approximately $300,000. That figure is more than double the cost of the brand’s current highest-priced mass-produced vehicle, the U8L plug-in hybrid SUV, which starts at 1.45 million yuan ($217,000). The U7 electric sedan, the brand’s current flagship passenger car, begins at 658,000 yuan ($98,000).

Technical details suggest the vehicle will use BYD’s first solid-state battery system. Executive vice president Stella Li previously stated that the company’s initial solid-state battery vehicle would appear in 2027, implying the UAE debut may align with that timeline. The car also features rear-hinged coach doors, a design element BYD has not used on its models before. Images released last month showed the vehicle at a BYD Flash Charging station, indicating support for megawatt flash charging.

Zheng Yu, Yangwang’s executive general manager, described the sedan as featuring "unprecedented disruptive technology" without providing further specifics. Local reports place the vehicle’s length at approximately 5,500 millimeters, or 216 inches. This dimension matches the scale of the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The car was previously equipped with a camouflage wrap during testing, though its silhouette clearly indicated its executive proportions.
