Apple skips iOS 27.1 for all iPhones except Duo
The update skips standard models, which will jump directly to iOS 27.2 next week.

Apple released iOS 27.1 late on the night of October 22, but the update is available only for the new iPhone Duo.
Owners of other iPhone models will see iOS 27.0.1 listed as the latest version in their settings. Apple is bypassing the 27.1 point release for these devices entirely. The next update for standard iPhones will be iOS 27.2.
The software split is unusual. Point releases typically distribute new features to all compatible hardware. Apple kept this specific update separate to isolate Duo-specific changes. This approach prevents unrelated features from mixing with the new device's custom designs.
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo in September, but many details remained hidden until recently. By skipping a public beta cycle for iOS 27.1, the company maintained control over the release timeline. This allowed Apple to keep engineering details under wraps until the official launch.
iOS 27.2 has been in beta testing for about a month and is scheduled for general release next week. The update includes Suggested Actions in Messages and a redesigned Apple Music app. Apple TV will gain user profiles, while Apple Podcasts receives a new Up Next queue. FaceTime adds Dual Capture for group calls, and Siri AI supports additional languages.
Users with standard iPhones are not missing features by skipping 27.1. The version was never intended for their devices. When the prompt for iOS 27.2 appears next week, it will include all necessary updates for their models.
