Nintendo Co. posted a net profit of 220.9 billion yen, or $1.4 billion, for the six months ending in September. That figure represents an 11% increase compared to the 199 billion yen recorded in the same period last year. Despite the margin improvement, the company’s total sales declined by 12% to reach 966 billion yen.

Hardware sales showed mixed results during the period. Nintendo sold 1.27 million original Switch consoles and 6.49 million Switch 2 units. The company attributed part of its financial performance to strong digital sales, including proceeds from downloadable games.

New software releases also contributed to the bottom line. Titles such as Star Fox and Splatoon Raiders sold well during the months in question. Demand for earlier hits like Mario Kart World remained steady. The 2026 animated film The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also helped boost the company's revenue.

Nintendo maintained its full-year financial projections for the fiscal year ending in March 2027. The company expects a profit of 310 billion yen, a decrease of nearly 27% from the previous year. It anticipates total sales of 2 trillion yen, down 11%.

The video game maker is navigating industry-wide challenges related to computer chips and rising costs driven by the artificial intelligence boom. Shares of the company gained 6.3% in Tokyo on Thursday following the report.
