Google Overhauls Gemini Android Interface With Five-Item Chat Limit
A server-side update reorganizes the navigation drawer and consolidates scattered preferences into a single settings page.

Android users opening the Gemini app this week will see fewer chat options and a reorganized menu. The interface now displays only the five most recent conversations in the side panel. Tapping a "More" button reveals the rest of the history, a change designed to reduce visual clutter in the navigation drawer.
The shift marks the latest in a series of interface adjustments for the platform. Last week, Google pushed similar design changes to iOS, macOS, and the web version of the app alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. The Android rollout is now reaching a wider audience through a server-side update, meaning users do not need to download a new version of the application to see the changes.
The navigation structure has been repositioned. Search has moved to the top-right corner of the screen. "Library" has been promoted to the second position, directly below "New chat." Previously, Library sat near the bottom of the drawer. For subscribers to the AI Ultra tier, the full list now includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.
Settings have been unified. Previously, users had to navigate between the account menu and a separate "Gemini Settings" area to adjust preferences. The update combines these into a single page. The account menu now handles only account switching, feedback, and help requests.
The new settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry marked as new in this section.
Two additional sections complete the layout. Data & privacy includes Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The final section, Get support, lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.
Other recent changes to the Gemini app include the addition of Gemini Notebook as a Connected App and the introduction of a new "Map" tool. The app also moved free users to "Auto" models as part of an update to its thinking levels.
